Subaru Recalls
Subaru of America, Inc. has been recalling some of its model year vehicles for different problems. One of the problems with the 2010-2011 Subaru Legacy and Subaru Outback vehicles is due to a programming error affecting the power train and manual transmission. Apparently in these vehicles, a lubrication hole within the six-speed manual transmission was not put in place when the vehicles left the manufacturer. If the transmission gears are not lubricated, the car may experience a grinding sound that could be the beginning of the problem. If the sound is ignored and no immediate remedy is taken, the gears of the transmissions would break and the operator could lose power resulting in loss of control and a possible crash.
In addition, the Subaru Forester and Impreza has developed a faulty airbag detection system in the front passenger seat. This has led to Subaru recalling more than 7,000 of the 2006 Forester and Impreza vehicles. The detection systems is subject to an electrical short because of a pinching of the wiring harness between the floor crossmember in the seat mounting bracket. Because of this defect, the passenger seat front airbag may not deploy in a crash. In addition, because of the electrical short, a fire could erupt. Subaru dealers are on notice that it will inspect the Subaru vehicles of this model year to see if the problem can be corrected. The Subaru dealers will repair any damaged wiring and make sure that the passenger seat detection system is fixed and safe.
