Mifeprex (RU-486)
Mifeprex is also known as mifepristone and RU-486. It is a pill that causes a medically induced abortion about seven weeks after a woman’s pregnancy starts. This pharmaceutical product is an alternative to a surgically induced abortion and blocks a hormone that is required in order to carry on the pregnancy.
Mifeprex is made by Danco Laboratories. The drug was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in September 2000. More than 460,000 pregnant women have taken the pill to end their pregnancies.
It has been known that use of Mifeprex has serious medical side effects. There have been more than 600 reported cases of adverse affects associated with the use of Mifeprex.
The known cases of side effects include hemorrhaging, infections, sepsis leading to septic shock and even death. The reported five deaths with the use of Mifeprex leading to septic shock have been associated with a bacterial infection called Clostridium sordellii.
Most of the Mifeprex lawsuits allege that the manufacturer, Danco Laboratories, chose not to correctly and appropriately warn users of the potential dangers associated with taking Mifeprex.
The list of the severe side effects from the use of Mifeprex is long.
