Oak Park is probably best known for the incredible Frank Lloyd Wright homes’ that pepper the area. People from all over travel to see the collection of Wright-designed homes and tours are offered throughout the year to accommodate them. Also of interest is the birthplace and childhood home of Pulitzer-Prize winner Ernst Hemingway and the Ernest Hemingway Museum.
Oak Park sits on land that was once part of Cicero, Illinois. Its population boomed in the area after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 so that by 1902 Oak Park was designated as its own city. Known for its diversity and thriving arts community, Oak Park actively works to cultivate its people and their talents.
The community’s only hospital, Rush Oak Park Hospital, serves both Oak Park and its neighboring community, River Forest. The hospital is partnered with Rush University Medical Center and is also affiliated with the Wheaton Franciscan Sisters.
