A Cook County Jury signed a verdict in favor of Lisa Johnson whose motor vehicle was struck at an intersection by the defendant driver, Harold Schwind. The lawsuit alleged that Schwind ran a red light and drove through the intersection at Schick Road and County Farm Road in Hanover Park, Ill. The Schwind vehicle hit Johnson’s car on the driver’s side as she drove through the intersection on a green light.

The Johnson vehicle rolled over after being struck, which caused a fractured tailbone. The tailbone fracture required surgery, extensive physical therapy and multiple steroid injections. Johnson also underwent nerve blocks prior to the surgery.

Vilma Marenco, 54, was driving her vehicle through an intersection when a loaded 18-wheeler operated by Rodger Jones struck her car on the driver-side door.

She suffered fatal injuries in this crash. She had been a restaurant worker earning $25,000 per year and is survived by her husband and two daughters, one of whom is a minor.

Marenco’s estate sued the truck driver and his company owners including Elisa Fabiola Lopez and R&F Quality Transportation, claiming liability for the negligent entrustment and choosing not to supervise Jones. The suit also named Jones for his failure to obey and heed a red light.  Apparently Jones ran through a red light, which was a cause of the crash and unfortunate death of Marenco.

Taylor suffered a fractured spine at C5-6, which led to quadriplegia. Taylor, who also suffers from developmental disability, now requires 24-hour care.

Taylor sued Schilling, alleging negligent driving. Schilling admitted liability for the collision but disputed the plaintiff’s damages.
