Vernon Hills is a Chicago suburban village in Lake County, Illinois. It is located northwest of the city of Chicago and west of Interstate-94. The population in the 2010 federal census was 25,113. The town's population grew by 25 percent between 2000 and 2010. Shoppers from Buffalo Grove, Libertyville, Lake Forest, Mundelein, and Lincolnshire often do their shopping in Vernon Hills.
The Village of Vernon Hills is bordered by Town Line Road, Half Day Road, Milwaukee Avenue and South Lake Street. The town is located in the Illinois 10th congressional district.
In terms of the racial makeup of the community, 71.4 of the population are white, 19.3 percent are Asian, 2.2 percent are African American, and 0.1 percent is Native American. The census reported that 2.1 percent are from other races, and 2.1 percent are from two or more races. A total of 11.4 percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino in origin.

For transportation purposes, Vernon Hills has a rail station on Metra's North Central line. This train provides daily rail service between Vernon Hills and stops north and south through Chicago’s Union Station. The area is served by Pace buses. In addition the Illinois toll 294 is in easy reach to access Chicago and its suburbs.
One notable visitor’s attraction in Vernon Hills is the Cuneo Mansion and Gardens. This is a home, which contains a beautiful art collection and gardens. The home was designed by architect Benjamin Marshall and constructed in 1914. Samuel Insull, founder of Commonwealth Edison, was the first owner of the home. In 1937, John Cuneo purchased the mansion. He is best known for establishing a local press and dairy company, as well as having several murals painted in the home.
