On January 20, 2016, a registered nurse dispensed the following medications for a resident in the sample. One tablet of medication, one capsule of another medication and two capsules of a third. In addition, they were dispensing their vitamins and aspirin for a total of 8 medications that were sprinkled or crushed on ice cream. There were missed medications for one resident. The family and the physician were informed. The facility received an order to administer the medication on January 20, 2016. The nurses have to give the medications on time and educate the residents about administering their medications.
Based on observation, interview and record review, The Admiral at the Lake failed to ensure proper labeling and storing of food items, failed to implement its policy and procedure regarding handwashing and failed to implement mechanisms to maintain the residents receiving foods from the facility dietary service.
Based on observation, interview and record review, the facility failed to have a policy to address the availability, distribution and utilization of emergency water for resident care. This has the potential to affect all of the residents at The Admiral at the Lake.
