The village website points proudly to an accelerated road repair program and the revitalization of the Concorde Green Shopping Center, located at the southwest corner of North Avenue and Bloomingdale Road. The shopping center has more than 200,000 square feet of retail space. Reskin Park, named after Harold Reskin, one of the early developers in the area, was recently renovated. The village also boasts a senior/community center. It is home to Glen Oaks Hospital as well as Glendale Lakes Golf Club, which is owned and managed by the Village of Glendale Heights.
Until 1958, the area known as Glendale Heights was rural. In 1958, Midland Enterprises, operated by Charles and Harold Reskin, bought two farms on Glen Ellyn Road, north of North Avenue. The first houses were built that year on Glen Ellyn Road near Fullerton Avenue. The following year, a petition to incorporate was circulated. On July 13, 1959 the village was organized, and the first election was held on Aug. 2, 1959. Though incorporated as Glendale, the name was changed to Glendale Heights in March 1960 because of a conflict with another Glendale in southern Illinois.
