Addison, Illinois is a village located west of the Chicago metropolitan area with a population of nearly 37,385 residents. It is located in DuPage County. U.S. Highways 290 and 355 run through Addison. Bensenville lies to the east of Addison, and Bloomingdale and Glendale Heights lie to the west. It is conveniently located near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

Addison Village Hall, the Addison Police Department and the DuPage County 18th Judicial Circuit Field Court are located along the south side of Lake Street (U.S. Route 20), immediately east of J.F. Kennedy Drive and west of Addison Road, and along the north side of Army Trail Road, east of the Army Trail/Kennedy Drive intersection. Many summer events are held on the "Village Green," which is on the east side of the Village Hall property.

In 1998, the Addison Historical District was formed for the purpose of protecting and preserving historical structures in the Village of Addison. Army Trail Boulevard, from Kennedy Drive to Lake Street, was designated, and includes St. Paul Lutheran Church built in 1906, and the Addison Century House, built in 1893 and restored to its original condition, and the Addison Historical Museum. The Century House and Historical Museum are maintained by the village of Addison and Historical Commission.
Addison was incorporated in 1885. Its elevation is 691 feet. Its land area is 9.43 square miles. The community was originally named Dunkley's Grove after the settler, Hezekiah Dunklee. It was renamed after a town in England or Joseph Addison, the 18th-century writer and co-founder of the magazine The Spectator. The Addison Industrial District was proposed as the location for the reconstruction of then Comiskey Park (now U.S. Cellular Field) but it was voted down. Addison was known for the Adventureland amusement park, which was located there during the 1960s and 1970s.
Addison is the home to Addison Trail High School and to the Indian Trail Junior High School. The Elementary schools are: Wesley Elementary, Lake Park Elementary, Fullerton Elementary, Army Trail Elementary, Lincoln Elementary and Stone Elementary. DeVry University and Chamberlain College of Nursing are also located in Addison.
